People pay a lot for 'new' items which I find strange. I sold about 6 Elite tomes from 10-15k whereas I think they're worth 3k max.

1k for the Signet of Capture, 1k for the convenience of not havign to cap and 1k as a little backhander for the salesperson.

Reality will set in eventually and they'll come down to a reasonble price. Ordinary Tomes can be sold for up 3k each right now but you might as well go and buy the skill from the trainer.

From a seller's point-of-view, ignorance is bliss.

I dunno. Its only once you UAX do Skill Tomes even come into play. If you get Elite Tomes from bosses then why not just fight the boss with the elite you want, cap it, and get some exp. *shrug* I like the exp as much as I like getting the elite.

Maybe because you want to get Feast of Corruption and not have to go to Dreadnaught's Drift or rely on a random chance spawn somewhere else?

I need to cap FoC. *lol* The bosses in the Southern Shiverpeaks all have random locations and there's invariably a boss a few steps from where you zone in. So you zone in, walk in a bit, press the ALT key, and you see if the boss is there or not. That's how I capped SS. Well, I actually had to go to the exact spawn location because the boss was an Azure Shadow. >_< But it was close to the entrance.

I have gotten tons of non-elite skill tomes. They seem to be a booby prize for chests. Man it sucks to get a white item from a chest. In 2 weeks, the market will be flooded with these cheap tomes.

While some people have argued that they may nonetheless settle at a value of over 1k, I would imagine that the total number of players who (1) have acess to hard mode, (2) have unlock-all usefull skills, (3) start a new character in a game other than factions, and (4) dont want to wait until they finish the noob area to get skills.... I would suggest that population is quite small... I bet it's the hard-core "low level pvp" addicts and few others.

Paying 1k for a normal tome is still cheaper then buying it at a Skill Trainer, since it costs 1k + 1 Skill Point. Still 1k seems too much for any smart buyer.
Tomes sell for 500g to merchant, so people offering 600g for buying them aint much smarter then then 1k sellers. 750g seems to be the nices price for both. But as said above, the market will probably get flooded by them soon. I myself wouldnt waste time to get 100g more from a real player, just sell to merchant and quickly continue enjoying the game, instead of shouting my lungs out WTS.

Elite tomes, the price people pay depends on how hard they need it. Some elites are really hard to capture, taking 1-2 hrs to get to that specific boss, though fortunately these bosses are rare. Especially for moneybags/online moneybuyers, money doesnt mean much to them, so paying up to 30k for 2 hrs less grinding is welcome for them.

Spoil Victor for a level 1 Necromancer:

No tome:
-Complete Factions until you reach Silent Surf or Mourning Veil Falls

Tome:
-Select the skill and click Learn.

Hmm... Tough choice... If all you have to do is give an hour worth of gold from farming to some lucky guy who has one of those tomes...

Well if I can't get at 1.5k for a reg. tome then I'll usually just sell to the merchant instead of killing time trying to sell it for less. I'll usually wait till I have around 10 of them and spam them all in a one liner.

I think the drop rate is a bit generous on these things though. I'm always surprised to see how many I've ended up with after an evening of doing most anything in pve.

I'm surprised so many PVE'ers would have the balthazar faction to unlock the skill first, to be able to use the book. Maybe there are more hybrid PVE/PVP players out there than I thought.

I'm stockpiling all of my tomes for GWEN, so if there are any good skills you don't normally get right away, I won't have to wait for them.

The other great thing about elite tombs that may make them pricey, is also the fact that in Nightfall, some skills only appear during a specific quest or after compelting a quest. Jagged Bones for instance. Easy to get during the quest, but once that quest is gone you can get it only at the end of a large irritating area. Then there is Toxic Chill which you only get after a particular quest is done. And so on. Not sure if it is still like this, but it was at the time.

I completed the quest with Jagged Bones, realised I forgot the sig of capture and by then it was too late....

many of the special event event's pay balth faction. - the draggon ball arena, rollar beatle raceing, and the snowball fights to name a few. alot of PvEr's also do alot of AB ( esp. luxon's) to get the faction to get jade and amber for armor.

I am UAX and I plan to make a new monk to go for legendary survivor. I have a few elite monk tomes, a handful of regular monk tomes, and 1 derv tome. The elite monk tome is priceless to me because I dont have to go all the way to Mineral Springs to get SoJ. For this type of new character I would definetly pay the higher price for tomes. For a veteran characters, they would probably use skill points and cap sigs.
Stockpiling the tomes for the release of GW:EN. I most likely will take my skill capping character through first and unlock the elites and use the tomes on the harder elite caps (edit) for the following characters.

Put some effort in and get the skills yourself.

Sell all the damn tomes at the ridiculously over-inflated prices and make a fortune.

i keep my stock of non-elite tomes in my inventory for those annoying times when you dont have some random skill unlocked on a character to stop the hassle of searching out a skill trainer. Elite tomes i would sell as i would rather go out and cap the skill (with the exception of some of the skills that hard to get such as FoC)

I'm looking forward to opening up every fire normal and elite skill on my ele mule in shing jea who has not done a single quest. I've been doing event-only quests and got her to level 8 or so. So it'll be kinda fun mowing down the Shing Jea quests.
Also I have 2 necros, each skilled differently, so it'll be nice to match them up. Also, my Warrior has all elites capped for the title, so I can outfit any of my other chars.
I see value in these tomes for the above reasons, and I only sell ones I can't possibly use myself.

EVERYONE here misses the fact that some people may have bought PvP unlock packs. As such, they can't go "buy" or "cap" the skills.
